Voice Control Personal Assistants

As time goes on, I realise that I for one, depend on Voice Control for a number of the devices that I have and use on a daily basis.

From mobile phones to computers and entertainment devices.

Specifically, Siri, Cortana, Google Assistant and Alexa.

I perform a number of tasks with these assistants from dialling a phone number to controlling my smart home and listening to and watching my entertainment choices.

Comparing one to another is not really fair, as each have their strengths and weaknesses.

When deciding which assistant I would like to help me, I invariably choose the one that is easiest to use (and get to understand me).

A secondary consideration is the task most suited to the assistant.

Although life would be simpler if one assistant was capable of doing everything, I quite like the idea of being surrounded by a number of assistants – I spent a lot of my professional life as a manager, so am used to heading a team to work together to complete tasks.

Where possible, information such as contacts, calendars, reminders and messages are shared between the various devices.

Sometimes this can be technically challenging but is very useful.

All-New Fire HD 8 Tablet with Alexa, 8″ HD Display, 32 GB

I couldn’t put off getting used to Android style devices any longer – so I got this to try out.

As I do with all my devices, I started by trying to install my McAfee on this tablet, to no avail along with a few other apps I normally use.

I understand Amazon’s need to provide their own app store but really guys, you need to have a word with the major software manufacturers to add to your app store.

I solved this particular problem by installing another Anti-Virus which is in the Amazon app store.

The good news is that I was able to connect with my Microsoft OneDrive and OneNote.

Of course anything Amazon is well covered along with integration to my Google account.

Excellent battery life, good HD screen and easy setup.

Liking it more every day for entertainment.

Amazon Fire TV Stick – First Impressions

Up ’till now, I have viewed my Amazon Prime Membership movies and box sets through my Xbox One and have been doing so for a year or two.

Having bought an Amazon Fire TV Stick (with Alexa Voice Remote), I find myself using this instead, the interface works for me and using voice control is a big time saver.

Setting up was very easy, connecting to my BT Hub, registering the voice remote with the TV stick and connecting with my Prime Membership Account.

Once up and running, it is easy to use and I have not noticed any problems so far with buffering.

Fast & Furious Franchise – Random Thoughts

Now we are on the release of Fast & Furious 8, I find myself thinking that I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Although the basic theme of the movies are more or less the same (fast cars & stunts), I find with each one that there is something new.

Long may they continue.
